Margaret Faulkner receives 2012 Jimmy Disbrow Award
Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club member Margaret (Peg) Faulkner, was presented the 2012 Jimmy Disbrow Award by Dede Disbrow during a ceremony at the 2012 US Figure Skating Championships in San Jose, CA.
The Jimmy Disbrow Award recognizes and honors members of the skating community who exhibit an outstanding spirit of dedication, integrity and volunteerism.
As a competitor, coach, Olympic team leader, national and world judge, and president of U.S. Figure Skating from 1998-2000, Jimmy Disbrow was an integral part of the skating community for more than four decades.
Margaret Faulkner has been a member of the AAFSC for almost 50 years during which time she has served our club in many capacities; as a member of our Board of Directors, director of Melody on Ice, a judge, original and only Chief Referee for 27 Springtime Invitational Competitions, ice monitor at Porter Classic Synchronized Competitions, Governing Council Delegate and has been graciously available to offer her expertise and encouragement to our skaters and coaches.
On the national scene, Peg was instrumental in developing synchronized skating as a competitive discipline and starting both solo dance and solo free dance competitions. She has served as the original and continuing referee for both Lake Placid (30 years) and Pikes Peak (6 years) Dance Competitions, referee for Indy Pairs Competition, and in addition to her judge and referee appointments, she holds appointments as Technical Controller, Video Replay, and Data Entry Operator. Peg has served on the Board of Directors of US Figure Skating and many of its committees as well as officiating at U.S. Adult Championships, U.S. Collegiate Championships, U.S. Junior Championships, and U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships.
On the international scene, Peg continued her service to the sport of figure skating as an ISU referee and judge at Grand Prix and Junior Grand Prix, Nations Cup, Four Continents, World Championship events and held an appointment as an Olympic judge.
Professionally, Peg is a musicologist, teacher and mentor. She led the way in discussions with figure skaters of why the right choice of music would lend itself to showing through movement what the music was saying.
The AAFSC is delighted and honored that Margaret Faulkner is recognized for her selfless lifetime contribution on the local, national and international scene as a judge, mentor, and educator in all disciplines of our sport by being named the recipient of the 2012 Jimmy Disbrow Award.

STROKING NEWS!
On Tuesday - Friday the ice cut from 4:05pm - 4:15pm will be cancelled. Instead, skaters on the 3:15pm & 3:40pm session will be allowed to stay on the ice for an extra10 minutes and skaters on the 4:15pm session will be allowed to get on the ice 10 minutes before their session. This 10 minutes of BONUS ICE will be given free of charge but with one catch. Only Stroking will be allowed during this time period.
There will not be an assigned Stroking Coach to run the 10 minutes but skaters are encourage to set up private or semi private lessons with a coach to work on stroking. We strongly recommend all skaters to take full advantage of this opportunity to improve their basic stroking skills. In addition to these 10 minute sessions we also have the 30 minute low/mid stroking class on Mondays. The Tuesday mid/high stroking class was cancelled due to low enrollment.
